There is a sudden sprout of ICU ultrasound training courses, keeping in pace with the demands of a self sufficient ICU physician. It has become a skill that a ICU physician must have, given the number of procedures demanding imaging guidance. Infact ultrasound guided vascular access and nerveblock have become the standard of care, minimising complication rates. The learning curve comparitively short. The procedural timing though time consuming in the initial stages, improves to a great extent with experience. Sonology is infact used next to clinical examination, covering all parts of the body, with main focus in cardiac, thoracic, vascular ultrasound and ultrasound for nerve blocks. Considering the above benefits should ultrasouond be a compulsary requriement during the ICU training.
