Hands-On Workshop in ICU Sonology

Workshop objectives:

The objective of this 2-day hands on workshop is to train participants in Level 1 echocardiography with additional basic doppler skills, basic lung and abdominal ultrasound and ultrasound guided vascular access techniques for specific use in the intensive care unit.

At the end of the course, participants should be able to

Heart:

1.Assess volume status and predict preload responsiveness

2.Identify focal or global LV dysfunction

3.Calculate cardiac output

4.Identify pericardial effusion and tamponade

5.Identify right heart dilation associated with acute pulmonary embolism

6.Interpret findings and generate a report that will help with management

Lung:

7.Identify and know how to mark pleural effusions for aspiration

8.Identify pneumothorax

Abdomen:

9.Identify and know how to mark ascites for aspiration

Vascular:

10.Identify and mark Internal Jugular and Femoral veins for cannulation

11.Identify DVT in lower limbs

Dates:

The workshop will be conducted on 18^th and 19^th March 2010.
